August 2007 - Towers Productions, Inc. (TPI), the Chicago-based producer of factual and entertainment programming, announced today that it will produce LAND OF LINCOLN, a television special based on Andrew Ferguson’s critically acclaimed book of the same name. The two-hour program is set to premiere for the Lincoln Bicentennial in 2009.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to bring this remarkable book to television,” said Jonathan Towers, Executive Producer of LAND OF LINCOLN. “Andy’s life-long passion for Lincoln and his unique approach to the subject will make this the premiere TV event of the Lincoln Bicentennial year.”
“Jonathan and his colleagues’ commitment to excellence has been widely recognized. I can’t think of anyone better equipped to translate LAND OF LINCOLN to television. It’s a great pleasure to join them in the adventure,” adds Andrew Ferguson.
In LAND OF LINCOLN, Mr. Ferguson, the program’s host and tour guide, will embark on a quest for the true Lincoln. As he makes his way through roadside restaurants and official Lincoln Welcome Centers, this curiosity-fueled and amusing road trip will show us how vibrant the myth and reality of America’s 16th president remains to this day. Lincoln is celebrated and despised, debated and appropriated, impersonated and collected in homes, classrooms, and statehouses across the country. What he is not - almost 150 years since he was struck down by an assassin’s bullet - is dead. Abraham Lincoln is alive and kicking in the country he paid the ultimate price to save.
Andrew Ferguson (author, host and narrator) is a senior editor at The Weekly Standard, based in Washington, D.C. Before joining The Standard in 1995, he was a senior writer at the Wasingtonian magazine and a columnist for Bloomberg News. He has been a columnist for Fortune, TV Guide, and Forbes FYI, and contributing editor to Time magazine. He has also written for The New Yorker, New York Magazine, The New Republic, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and other publications.
