3D war doc 'breaks new ground'

Cameras have begun rolling on what US 3D network 3Net claims is the first ever 3D war documentary series.

The Civil War 3D (working title, 4x60’) is billed by Sony/Discovery Communications/Imax joint venture channel 3Net as the “most ambitious 3D series ever produced for television.”

The series promises to takes viewers back to pivotal moments in the American Civil War through the eyes of soldiers on both sides of the conflict. Principle photography is already underway, 3Net president and CEO Tom Cosgrove announced today.

The show, produced by Tower Productions, is set to debut on 3Net this fall. Executive producers for Tower are Jonathan Towers and David Padrusch, who also directs. Tim Pastore executive-produces for 3Net.

“Shooting in native 3D gives us the unique ability to bring an entirely new level of depth and emotion to this epic time in history with groundbreaking storytelling that simply hasn’t been possible until now,” said Cosgrove.

3Net went exclusively live on DirecTV in the US on February 13.
